Back pain has been a major problem for many people at some point in their lives. Although lower back pain is not really a disease, it is however an indication that your body particularly your lower back muscles are strained and they need rest.

Back pain can also be felt when the discs between vertepae are damaged. This will cause irritation in the nerve which is known as lumbar radiculopathy. The disc can also get damaged as a result of traumatic injury, degeneration of outer ring of the disc or both. This will cause the disc to rupture and eventually the pain can shoot down the leg. The pain is further made worse with the movement, coughing or sneezing.


Another lower back pain cause that is worthy of mentioning is the bone and joint conditions. These conditions could be the results of inflammation of the joints, the wear and tear or injury. Arthritis can affect the sacroiliac joints and lower back and cause pain in the back.


Other lower back pain causes include but not limited to ovary problems, kidney problems, pregnancy as well as tumors. Cartilage or spinal bone infection, Paget’s disease of the bone, infection or bleeding in the pelvis, shingles, and aneurysm of aorta are some of the uncommon lower back pain causes.


While it is true that you need sufficient bed rest to accelerate the recovery process for your back, it is also a known fact that staying in bed for too long can only make the pain worse and possibly worsen the condition of your back. The best advice however is to exercise and rest moderately. Be sure to also avoid the activities that can potentially cause pain to back so that your back muscles can recover as soon as possible.
